$100 billion in Build America Bonds
In a white paper released in June, FMI Corp. acknowledged that the ARRA-created Build America Bond program has helped offset the decline in property tax revenues to fund projects. The program offers local and state governments a subsidy of 35% on interest for municipal bonds. So far more than $100 billion of the bonds have been sold.
Many expect the program – which is due to expire Dec. 31 – to continue. A bill, written by Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus and House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Sander Levin, would extend Build America Bonds by two years but lower the subsidy to 30%.
